Jacinta Calabro studied music therapy as an undergraduate at the University of Melbourne in 1994 and, after graduating with honours, went on to establish the first music therapy program at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton. Jacinta has worked at MMC Clayton for the past 10 years as senior clinician and manager for the Music Therapy Department, providing music therapy services to paediatric and neonatal patients.  Jacinta has completed two research projects in the areas of music therapy for premature infants with chronic lung disease and music therapy for infants withdrawing from opiate dependency.  This last project was completed as part of a research masters degree conducted through the National Music Therapy Research Unit (NaMTRU) at the University of Melbourne.

Since 2000 Jacinta has been a casual tutor for the Music Therapy Methods 1 subject and has held the position of Coordinator, Music Therapy Clinical Training, since 2006.  In this role Jacinta has taught the Clinical Practice subjects for music therapy and coordinated the music therapy students clinical placements and their supervisor training programs. Jacinta is also a guest lecturer for Music Psychology and Child Clients subjects, and has lectured interstate and overseas.

Jacinta continues to be active in the music therapy profession through regular conference presentations in her clinical specialty of music therapy for sick or premature newborn infants, and student supervision.
