In this subject you will gain hands-on experience rehearsing on the magnificent bronze seven-tone Semar pegulingan ensemble from Bali, Indonesia. Students will learn to play the instruments of the gamelan leading to a short dramatic performance related to the ritual life of this famous tourist island; learn aspects of the cultural context of gamelan music; and how to teach short forms of gamelan music (such as baris and bapang) that can be recreated in the classroom.
